September Reset: 5 Simple Things You Can Do to Move Your Styling Business Forward
August 25, 2026
Pick one thing that would make the biggest difference to your business over the next three months.
August is often a slightly strange month in any business and we are certainly not exempt.
Clients are away, family routines are disrupted and it can feel as though people are waiting for September before they get serious about anything again. So if your inbox has been a bit quieter or you've struggled to find your usual momentum, you're not alone.
The good news is September often brings a renewed sense of routine. People start thinking about themselves again. They return to work, the kids go back to school, the seasons begin to change and thoughts turn to wardrobes and wanting to feel equipped for the months ahead.
Before you disappear into a huge September to-do list, here are five simple things you can do to give your styling business a gentle but purposeful reset.
1. Make sure people can actually book you
This sounds obvious, but when was the last time you checked your own booking process? Go through it as though you were a potential client.
Can they easily see:
- What you offer?
- Who it's for?
- How much it costs?
- Where you are?
- How to book?
If somebody has to message you three times to find out how to work with you, there's a good chance some potential clients won't bother.
Easy win: Choose one of your services this week and make sure you have one clear post, page or link you can direct people to when they ask about it.
2. Give your existing audience a reason to come back
You don't always need more followers or new clients. Sometimes the quickest opportunity is sitting with the people who already know you. Think about previous clients. Is there a natural next step you could offer them?
Perhaps:
- A seasonal wardrobe update
- A wardrobe edit
- Personal shopping
- Styling the clothes they bought following their colour analysis
- A "what to wear this autumn" appointment
- A makeup or accessories session
You've already done the hard work of building trust with these people.
Easy win: Contact five previous clients personally. Not with a hard sell – simply check in and let them know what's available if they would like some help transitioning their wardrobe into the new season.
3. Use September as a content opportunity
You don't need to suddenly create 30 reels. Think about what your clients are actually experiencing right now.
They may be asking:
"What do I wear now the weather is changing?"
"Can I still wear my summer clothes?"
"What colours are around this autumn?"
"What do I actually need to buy?"
There are your content ideas.
Easy win: Choose one question and answer it. That's it. Write a post, record a quick video or talk to camera for two minutes. Useful content beats trying to create something clever and complicated every single time.
4. Look at what actually made you money
Before setting ambitious goals for the final part of the year, take a look backwards. Which services have been your most profitable? Which ones do you genuinely enjoy delivering? Where did your best clients come from?
And perhaps just as importantly, what are you spending time doing that isn't bringing in income, leads or genuine enjoyment?
We can get so busy working on our businesses that we forget to look at what's actually working.
Easy win: Write down your income from the last three months and identify your top three revenue-generating services or activities. Then ask yourself: How can I do more of what is already working?
5. Choose one thing to improve – not ten
September has "fresh start" energy which is great until you decide you need a new website, new logo, new booking system, daily social media strategy, email funnel and six new services all by next Tuesday.
You don't.
Pick one thing that would make the biggest difference to your business over the next three months.
Perhaps it's becoming more visible.
Perhaps it's filling your appointments.
Perhaps it's reconnecting with previous clients.
Perhaps it's finally talking confidently about what you do and who you help.
Choose one focus and give it some consistent attention. Small actions, repeated, are far more likely to move your business forward than a giant list of good intentions.
Your September question
If you could make one meaningful improvement to your styling business before Christmas, what would it be? Start there.
You don't need to have everything figured out. You don't need a perfect business plan or a completely new strategy. You just need to take the next useful step. And September is a pretty good time to begin.
We are Jo and Wendy. We write these blogs to help stylists grow confident, successful businesses, particularly those at the beginning of their journey. But we know that, however long you've been styling, our businesses don't stand still and neither do our clients. There is always something new to learn, share and explore.
We love welcoming stylists into our community who believe, as we do, in community over competition – because we are all stronger when we share our experience, support one another and grow together.
